Rajmohan Gandhi is a renowned historian and biographer. He has authored many critically acclaimed books, including ‘Mohandas: A True Story of a Man, His People and an Empire’ and ‘A Tale of Two Revolts: India 1857 and the American Civil War’. He doesn’t get overly affected by the fact that he is Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson and takes it in his stride. Recently Rajmohan Gandhi was in the city to deliver the keynote address at the Karachi Literature Festival. Peerzada Salman sat down with him for a chat. The following are excerpts:
Q: Some people don’t see partition in a favourable light? Your comment.
A: I’m not here to pronounce judgements or make clever comments. All I can do, all we can do, is to try and understand what transpired at the time of partition. Great sadness was caused by the division. All we should do is to try and find what happened and how it happened.
