Islamabad “Flowers always make people better; happier and more helpful — they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” This quote has stuck in my mind and proved so appropriate Sunday evening as the Floral Art Society of Pakistan organised a fundraising event for the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Peshawar.
The FAS chapters from around the country collectively participated in a National competition, creating floral art pieces of various categories, which were later displayed at the venue of the Floral Fashion Show. The ‘full house’ event was held at the Serena Hotel; the ‘art’ was stunning and the ‘fashion’ show was the first of its kind held in Pakistan! Adding to the experience was the floral art of Russian artist, Araik Galeyston, a recognised designer invited specially for the occasion, who also judged the work of the contestants. As the guests arrived they were ushered in and got to view the beautiful, timeless and elegant arrangements that were displayed in the lobby as well as the Sheesh Mahal Hall. There was some really amazing ‘art’ on show — including the one by president FAS Islamabad, Asma Ansari, which got the ‘Best New Concept’ award and was picked as a fine example of its category by the judge, who showed it on stage during the prize distribution ceremony held a day earlier.
