Colorectal surgery ward starts functioning at Civil Hospital Karachi

Karachi A 50-bed ward for colorectal cancer patients has started registration for surgeries at the Civil Hospital Karachi.

This is the first separate ward established for colorectal cancer surgeries at any government-run healthcare centre in Sindh.

The newly renovated Surgical Unit 5 of CHK has started registration of patients with colorectal cancer and also for other general surgeries from February 21, said Colorectal Surgery Surgical Unit 5 Assistant Prof Dr Khursheed Ahmed Samon.

The special unit is equipped with high dependency unit, library for modern research and stoma care room. All major tests, including blood, x-ray, endoscopy, CT scan, and medicines and surgical equipment would be available free of charge for patients under one roof.

Samon said that 25 beds each had been allocated for female and male patients. Initially, 25 beds have been allocated for patients with colorectal cancer while the rest of the beds were for general patients. He appreciated the role of in-charge colorectal surgery unit Prof Amjad Siraj Memon for the establishment equipped with latest technology.
