Record funds for health and education, Minister for Excise and Taxation and Finance

LAHORE PROVINCIAL Minister for Excise and Taxation and Finance Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said that there is a need to utilise national resources equitably for setting up a peaceful society and for economic prosperity of the masses.


In a statement issued here Sunday, he said that to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), record funds were being provided to health and education sectors. He said that for imparting modern education to the students, Rs 244 billion were being spent on education sector which was 26 percent of the total budget of the province. He said that by increasing the health budget up to Rs 102 billion, the present government had ensured modern health facilities and free medicines as well as air-conditioning facilities in general wards to poor people. He said the government was providing required funds on priority basis for the uplift of socio-economic condition of the masses. Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said that Punjab government had started special programmes for the welfare of the common man, including provision of soft term loans to the youth, launch of Punjab Rozgar Bank and health insurance scheme. He said that unemployed youth were being given interest free loans of three billion rupees under self-employment scheme while various skills were being imparted to the youth.He said that the problems like corruption and unemployment could be controlled through good governance and transparency.
