Angiography machine inoperative at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)

ISLAMABAD: The only angiography machine in the cardiac centre at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) is out of order since the last one and half month.
As result the cardiac patients visits different private hospital or the Armed Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi. The cardiac center was established in the hospital some 28 years back with a capacity of 14 bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and 31-bed ward. With passage of time, the center needed full up gradation. At PIMS the cardiac center is one of the busiest units where everyday more than one hundred outdoor patients are administered.
It, however, has neither been upgraded nor the machine fixed. Sources said that repairing the machine will cost Rs15 million while a new one will cost Rs70 million and the hospital administration is planning on having the old one fixed. Talking to the Frontier Post an old patient Ch Saber said that he was facing difficulty because of the out-of-order machine as he had to go to a private hospital which was expensive.
Although the former Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf formally inaugurated the newly established cardiac center which could accommodate 117 beds, it was not functional, the source informed on the condition of anonymity.

A doctor at PIMS cardiac center said that at least Rs300 million were required to purchase a new angiography machine and other necessary equipment for the operation theatre and Intensive
Care Unit.
The Frontier Post also discovered that instead of the senior doctors, the fresh doctors entertained patients in OPD although the name of the senior doctors was written on the tickets given to them.
Spokesperson of the hospital administration also confirmed that although the machine was out of order, budget was a big issue in buying a new one so the old one will be repaired.
