Karachi The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) demolished four illegal water hydrants and also seized their operational equipment on Friday.
According to KWSB officials, following directives of the city commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the staff of water board and Korangi district administration carried out raids in Korangi, Coast Guard Chowrangi in Korangi 5 ½ and Chakra Goth and shut down the four illegal hydrants operating there. The local police assisted the officials.
During the raid, three-inch-wide illegal water connections emerging from the main 33-inch pipeline were also disconnected.
The officials said that Sabir Hydrant, Mehmood Hydrant, Ishtiaq Hydrant and Hanif Baraf Khana Hydrant had been operating on the pretext of ‘boring’ water. However, the KWSB claimed that those hydrants were stealing water from the main pipeline and minting millions of rupees while causing a shortage in various areas.
