Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PM&DC closes Al-Razi medical College College is owned by PTI legislature Nasir Khan Khattak

ISLAMABAD: In the wake of putting the future of more than 100 medical students on risk by running substandard medical college, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) on Tuesday in principle decided to close the Al-Razi Medical College owned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) legislature Nasir Khan Khattak.
The decision has taken in the 137th Council meeting of PM&DC held here at council’s secretariat in chair of Dr. Masood Hameed president PM&DC.
Sources in PM&DC informed ‘The Frontier Post’ that incumbent member of National Assembly (NA), Nasir Khan Khattak, who was elected from the constituency NA-15, has been associated with the bussiness of medical education for last two and half years, however the PM&DC in its recent inspection report declared it sub-standard institution conflicting with the standards and guide lines set by the council.
The official of PM&DC revealed that the owner had rented library books and medical equipment, and hired a considerable number of faculty members to fake the evidence presented to the PMDC and had promised the council to build the complete infrastructure of medical college according the guidelines described by PM&DC. He alleged that one of the tools of former PPP political regime, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan managed to issue an illegal registration certificate to a private medical college (PMC) without prior approval of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC. The PMDC had rejected Al Razi Medical College’s registration case as the above mentioned private medical college did not have its own building and its own hospital. The Health Ministry, in violation of the PMDC regulations, issued a registration certificate to the PMC, allowing it to admit 100 students for MBBS.

PMA than office bearers strongly protested against the issuance of the registration certificate and demanded resignation from the top officials of the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, the PMDC had disallowed the college to take in new admissions for the first year, However College authorities failed to honour the decision of council.
The PM&DC in its 137th Council meeting recommended closure of Al-Razi Medical College, Peshawar due to deficiency of faculty, non availability of its own hospital and non affiliation with any university owned by the MNA Nasir Khattak Khan of PTI The president PM&DC, Prof. Dr Masood Hameed revealed that more than 100 medical students of Al-Razi Medical College were adjusted in other colleges and the College was stopped admissions by the Council.
He said that the Al-Razi Medical College, Peshawar has been debarred for admitting medical students by the Peshawar High Court due to the non affiliation of the college with any university .The Peshawar High Court has also directed Khyber Medical University (KMU) to adjust 100 students of this college.
He further maintained that the cantonment hospital which was attached with the AL-Razi Medical College, Peshawar has also issued show cause notice to Al-Razi Medical College, Peshawar for not fulfilling the terms and conditions of the agreement and for not hiring of their faculty, teaching staff, machinery/instruments in cantonment hospital for the last one year. He said as per the decision of the Peshawar High Court Peshawar the adjustment committee of Khyber Medical University, Peshawar (to adjust the Al-Razi Medical College students) will be considered in the next coming meeting of the Council for final adjustment. PM&DC has also requested the Chairman PTI Imran Khan to look into the matter of substandard medical colleges for providing such substandard education by the two MNA’s of PTI in KPK.
