Islamabad To celebrate the 58th anniversary of the Independence Day of their country, the popular ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, and Mrs Maha Bourehla hosted a reception at the Serena Hotel. It was a very well attended affair and the guest of honour was Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid. The cake was cut after the national anthems of both countries – Pakistan and Tunisia – had been played.
On arrival guests were greeted warmly after walking on a carpet lined with rose petals, their gentle scent wafting in the air. Inside the hall the hosts stood besides a large painting of a typical door seen in a Tunisian town – black and white tiles framing pretty blue ones. These doors are traditional and gave a unique look to the town and the painting made for an unusual but representative backdrop for our hosts. Lively music and a general air of celebration made the reception enjoyable, adding to the aura of the excitement many Islamabad residents were feeling on having a polo ground of their own! This ground had been inaugurated by the president of Pakistan earlier in the evening.
