KARACHI: Providing insight into the pivotal role a woman can play in an emerging economy, four women entrepreneurs came out to share their inspirational stories at the British Deputy High Commission here on Friday, the eve of International Women’s Day. Speaking about leadership at the event, British Deputy High Commissioner John Tucknott said: “In recent years, there has been a shift on what leadership can mean. Malala Yousafzai hails from Swat, a most dangerous place. If you are a woman in Swat you have very few rights and if you are a girl, you have none. But Malala decided to fight for her rights which resulted in a 23-year-old gunman shooting her and leaving her to die. But the bullet did not kill her. It only amplified her message,” he added.
“No country can move ahead if the women and girls there are left behind. Leaders who don’t acknowledge this fact are doing a disservice to their country,” he said.
