PESHAWAR: KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak while terming cheating in examinations a social cancer has said it results in darkening of the future of our children and to get rid of them is inevitable. He said copying in exams is more big crime than theft and dacoity.
He besides further strengthening the penalties for its prevention also directed the authorities for taking all other effective measures. Similarly, he besides installation of CCTV cameras in all examination halls also directed the same severe punishment for in-charge of the hall where cheating material recovered from a candidate including lodging of FIR in nearest police station. He however asked the need of proper steps for the encouragement of the invigilators on recovery of copying and UFM material. The chief minister warned that in case of proving allegations of the selling of examination halls and complaints of copying, the chairman of the concerned Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) will be removed forthwith from his post.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting regarding prevention of the practice of copying in examinations and evolving of effective strategy in this regard here in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat Peshawar.
The meeting took several decisions for effective prevention against copying and bringing transparency in examinations. These preventive measures, the chief minister was told, included the installation of CCTV cameras in and around exam halls, imposition of section 144 when necessary, complete ban on the sale and purchase of pocket guides in market, monitoring through secret cameras control room and mobile phones, establishment of online complaint centres, complete ban on any kind of photo-stat machines around 200 meter distance of the examination halls and use of cell phones by both candidates and invigilators. The meeting also decided that the nominations of the invigilators wold be made under the supervision of an impartial committee through computer draw. Furthermore, the allowance of local inspectors has been increased by 70 per cent and Fitwa against cheating/UFMs has been sought from Ulema in this regard. Similarly, besides increasing TA/DA of the invigilators, revolutionary changes have also been introduced in the procedure of practical examinations from now onward. The meeting also decided the selection of limited number of examiners for checking the papers, while super checkers will also be appointed to make examiners more careful in the checking of the papers and elimination of the possibilities of mistakes in the checking.
The chief minister directed the authorities to effectively publicize the decisions taken in the meeting both in media and other sources. Similarly he asked for starting campaign against cheating in exams to create maximum awareness among students, parents and teachers. He also directed the authorities to prominent display the laws and punishments outside every examination hall and also ensure their strict implementation.
The chief minister directed for the immediate enforcement of these decisions in forthcoming examinations of Secondary School Certificate (SSC). He also directed the authorities for the abolition of the practice of “Ratta”and swot trends of students for just passing exams in education institutions, particularly at primary level. Similarly he underlined the need of holding of primary and middle level examinations through examination boards sooner. He clarified that copying in exams is also worst form of corruption, which has no space in our government, saying he will abolish this curse at any cost to make it a tale of the past and will turn the darkening future of our youth into bright one. He said these young generations in-fact has voted PTI into power. He said that the secondary level examinations due in next few weeks are a test case and challenge for both government and department of education in this regard and for performing this crucial responsibility we will have to work with missionary spirit.
