LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to amend the family law for putting restrictions on the marriage of girls under 18.
Law minister Rana Sanaullah says the law will be amended to make court permission mandatory for the marriage of a girl under 18. He says the girl marrying before attaining the legal age of 18 or those making arrangements for such a marriage will be penalised with a jail term up to three years and up to Rs100,000 fine or both. The minister says if any family wishes to marry its underage girl for certain reasons it shall have to seek court permission.
