REFERENCE Maleeha Hamid Siddiqui’s article ‘Confucius comes to Karachi’ (March 7).
I would like to point out that the Sindh education department had announced the plan to introduce Chinese in government schools in the province. Faiz Muhammad Khoso, former ambassador and Chinese Language expert, was appointed to head the project.
I contacted Mr Khoso as how to get registered for the course, which he explained to me. An advertisement was given in newspapers for selection of government teachers to learn Chinese. Teachers from every corner of Sindh applied for it. A team of the education department conducted interviews of interested candidates and I was one of the teachers selected.
I was eagerly waiting to know when to start the course, but till today we have not heard anything.
Later we came to know that the services of Mr Khoso were terminated by the authorities of the education department.
After some time an advertisement for a consultant and for a director for Chinese language appeared in newspapers. However, no one has been selected or appointed as yet.
A project that was initiated on the orders of former president Asif Ali Zardari has not been implemented.
Why were the services of Mr Khoso terminated when he knows Chinese and has recently written a book on how to learn Chinese in English, Chinese, Urdu and Sindhi?
