GUJRAT: Local manufacturers have not shown keen interest in displaying their products at the fourth Gujrat industrial exhibition as there are few stalls of electric fans, pottery and furniture.
The six-day exhibition being held at the Zahoor Elahi Stadium entered into the third day as Sudan ambassador Ahmed Abdul Rehman was the chief guest on Friday.
The rain caused some disturbance for few hours, but organizers had the rainwater removed quickly.
The exhibition houses at least 150 stalls of different products of various local, national and international brands, but amazingly there are only six stalls of Gujrat-based electric fan manufacturing companies out of more than 150 fan factories in Gujrat.
Same is the case with other known sectors of Gujrat as out of some 130 pottery and ceramics units only three companies have erected their stalls while only six out of around 200 local furniture companies have displayed their products in the exhibition.
A visitor, Abu Bakar, said the atmosphere at the exhibition disappointed him as it seemed that stalls were of retail shops.
He said most of the stalls did not have the introductory materials such as pamphlets or brochures for publicity.
Even some executive members of the GTCCI seemed to be unhappy with arrangements and criticized the performance of the exhibition organizing committee.
An executive member told Dawn that key members of the organizing committee were only interested in photo sessions with visiting delegates and diplomats rather than concentrating on their job.
An insider said the Gujrat chamber was a highly politicized organization due to the monopoly of a local influential political figure belonging to the ruling PML-N.
GTCCI president Tariq Bilal Malik said the organizing committee had been striving hard for one month for making the exhibition successful. He claimed the arrangements at the exhibition had been made according to the international standards.
He said the Gujrat chamber had tried to provide much better atmosphere to the exhibitors.
Mr Malik said most of pottery manufacturers could not participate in the exhibition because they had been facing gas shortages for three months.
