Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to provide relief, health cover to 5,000 families

Islamabad: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has announced to support 5,000 families with food and health services in the drought-affected Tharparkar region.

The decision was made by PRCS Chairman Dr. Saeed Elahi on the directive of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Dr. Saeed has appealed to the people of Pakistan to donate generously to PRCS so that it can mitigate the sufferings of the most vulnerable.

The relief items for each family include flour, rice, spilt chickpea pulse, pink lentil, ghee, sugar, tea, salt and mineral water. The items are worth Rs36 million.

Besides relief items, PRCS will also set up medical camps in the affected areas while a Basic Health Unit will also be functional to provide medical assistance to the affected persons. The medical camps will vaccinate people to combat any major disease outbreak. The team will also carry with them, emergency medicines kit for 10,000 people for three months.

Dr. Saeed said, PRCS will continue to support the Thar victims and more relief in terms of household and health services will be provided on need basis. “PRCS will stay in the area till complete rehabilitation of the victims,” he assured.

The National Headquarters of PRCS is constantly in touch with its Sindh Branch, which has been asked to provide maximum support to victims. The PRCS Disaster Management Cell in Mithi is also active in the drought-hit areas.
