Pumping out underground water without permission Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) plans heavy charges on private housing schemes

LAHORE Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has planned to impose heavy charges on all the private housing schemes in the provincial capital for pumping out underground water without the permission of the Agency.

Sources in the Agency said WASA had already been declared as the custodian of underground water by the government so maintenance of the underground reservoir was its responsibility. The sources added that the move would improve the revenue condition of the cash starved agency. They said that, earlier, WASA had collected “Aquifer Charges” from big users but the Supreme Court of Pakistan had stopped it from collection of this fee.
