Karachi The city commissioner has urged school administrations to implement all possible measures to maintain safety standards of school buses, highlighting faulty CNG kits and overcrowding as the main causes for concern.
“It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety of our children. Stringent action needs to be taken against operators of unfit or overcrowded school buses,” Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said at a meeting held on Friday to review the impact of measures adopted in collaboration with the Karachi Road Transport Authority (RTA).
“The city administration will extend full support for a police crackdown on such vehicles. Any driver or owner who fails to ensure a seat for each and every child will be taken to task,” he vowed.
RTA Chairman Ghazanfar Ali Qadri informed that the department has removed five CNG cylinders over the past two days and imposed fine of Rs 48,000 on operators of unfit buses or those guilty of overcrowding.
