ISLAMABAD: Three-day plantation campaign started by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) concluded here on Friday.
Volunteers planted saplings along Kashmir Avenue.
PRCS Secretary-General Dr Mahboob Sardar said forest to land area ratio in Pakistan was 2.19pc as reported in the World Bank report published in 2012, which was one of the lowest in the world. Besides, Pakistan also has the highest rate of deforestation in Asia, he added. Mr Sardar said ideally it should be at least 33pc or more.
“We must pay heed to this natural resource. Pakistan is blessed with nature with all kinds of land, terrains and soil to grow trees in abundance,” he added. The PRCS secretary-general said everyone must be made to plant a tree at least once a year.
